Pieter J. Lemstra is professor-emeritus in Polymer Technology. He received his Ph.D. in 1975 from Groningen University (NL), was post-doctoral fellow at Bristol University (UK) in 1975/1976 . In the period 1976-1985 he was groupleader at DSM-Research and inventies and developed together with Paul Smith the strongest fiber in the world now marketed under the trade name Dyneema ®.
From 1985 – 2011 he has been full professor in Polymer Technology and Chairman of the Polymer Technology Group at Eindhoven (SKT). He supervised 70 Ph.D. students. In 1997 he founded the Dutch Polymer Institute (DPI) and became scientific director for the period 1997-2004. In the period 1999-2002 he was the President of the European Polymer Federation (EPF).
After retirement in 2011, Pieter J. Lemstra started his own R&D company PlemPolco BV, a company focusing on sustainable solutions in the area of polymer technology .
